Breaking it over a text: Is it cowardly or not?
![]()
Society is becoming more technology dependent everyday, but should people depend on quick technology to break up or mend relationships? I think not.
In recent news, Basketball Player Richard Jefferson called off his wedding with fiance Kesha Ni’coleĀ Nicholas (former Nets dancer) via email! Some applaud him for it, while others condemn the action. I condemn the action. I find it a cowardly action. Why is it a cowardly action? I feel if you were thinking about marrying someone or you were in a relationship with someone, you should have enough respect to do it in person.
It is immature and insincere to do it any other way. Yes, he spent 2 million dollars on planning the wedding. Yes, he had a settlement for her losses of not being married. Yes, he allowed his friends to use his credit card to party all night, without him, on his wedding day!
I would personally feel crappy if some guy I thought I would spend my life with treated me like another object instead of a human being! What is up with that? How would you feel if the tables were turned? Crappy!
However, I applaud him for not going along with the wedding if he did not feel ready for such a big commitment! But arguing over a text message, dumping over a text message or asking someone out over a text message is inappropriate. It displays the type of character you have as a person. All actions display how people will judge you. Grow some balls,if you are a guy. If you are a woman, grow some boobs! If you can not say how you feel to someone you love or care about, you should not be with them in the first place!
But then again, some people are too simple. If I text you about something major over a text, I most likely do not like you or respect you enough to want to talk to you in person. I feel this might be true when men try to dump people over text messages. It gets old.
So my advice for today is keep it real! What do you have to lose if you are straight forward in a physical and mental sense?
