Wisdom through keeping real: Michael Jordan still on point!

After all the drama the past few days, I discovered something worth talking about. No, it is not about Kanye West taking a microphone from an young country star of the name Taylor Swift. No, it has nothing to do with disfavoring or favoring the health care reform or Serena Williams. This discussion has to do with forgetting limits, forgetting fears, and never saying never. It is about believing in yourself when others want you to give up.

Jordan had a great speech at his hall of fame induction! Some people disapproved of it and others laughed. I loved the speech. It was honest. It was sincere. These two elements are rarely seen in my personal or impersonal interactions in society. It was a refreshing and, for me, an unforgettable speech!

My favorite line of the speech was when Jordan said ” Limits, like fears, are often just illusions. Never say never.”

Jordan went from underdog to the best basketball player of all time( so far)! He did it with class and hard work. I think anyone who puts effort into what he or she does and brings positivity upon others,in the process of succeeding at his or her dreams, is note worthy. It proves to me a person does not have to wrong a bunch of people to get to what he or she defines as “the top.”

Never say you can never do what you dream to do. Never let someone rain on  your parade. Jordan is right, most limits and fears are illusions. What are we afraid of? Is it with good reasoning?

If you are afraid of someone, you have to be crazy. We all bleed. We all cry. We all smile. We all die. We limit ourselves when we do not live our life to the fullest. I mean, maybe it is not possible to live the most fullfilling life, but usually it is our personal fault for that!

Do you believe Juan Martin del Potro, at 20, would win this year’s  US opening tennis tournament? He did not set a limit to himself. He played his best and it paid off.

So, instead of looking at the negative commentaries in the news and in your life…work on being a better you. Set some goals and do not limit yourself. Remember, it is just an illusion.
